Beautiful Blue French Bistro Chair....and a few other new items in the store

Bonjour!

I was invited to see a friend's items that arrived in their recent container and look at what I found!  I love this chair!  It is a pale robin's egg blue.  It is chippy and worn and fabulous.  I was very grateful for the call to preview their treasures!  I was like a kid in a candy store.

I love that the edge of the seat is chipped off.

There are layers of green, a darker blue, and red on the back side of it.

I made this market tote last weekend.  I pieced two different sacks together.

I love the shade of the blue.  And I think that it is special because of the monogram.  It is that of the farmer who used this particular sack.  I think that this would be a nice tote to take to the market, or beach bag to carry in Hawaii, or any beach for that matter.  The great thing is that it comes with history.

Sold.

This beautiful pitcher came from the same vendor but I purchased it a long time ago.  I love the patina on it.  There are a few white paint stains on it.  It is no longer watertight.  I place a glass in it to hold water for flowers.

And last but certainly not least, I promised in a past post that I would be getting more enamelware canister sets in.  Here are three of the four sets I have found.  I am still waiting to receive the other one from France.

I like the ribbing on the sides.  What a nice touch.

The next two pics are sets consisting of two canisters.  I really like the faded gilt striping and gothic lettering on both of them.

All of the above items, minus the cream and gold enamelware pitcher (cannot seem to list that one yet :)) are available in my Etsy shop.

Thanks for visiting

Michele

White Hydrangeas and Chippy Bistro Chair

Hi all.  Everyone happy that it is Friday?  I thought that I would share these photos of my hydrangeas because they just make me happy.  They are so big and beautiful!

I found this pitcher online.  It was advertised as white.  It was not that expensive so I wasn't expecting too much.

When it arrived I was surprised by the great condition as well as the bluish grey hue.

It even holds water, which you probably know is not all that common for enamel pitchers of this age.

My bistro chairs have been selling really well in the shop recently.  So I decided to add this one.

It is German, around 1930's, from a beer garden, I was told when I bought it from the antiques dealer.  I have tried to research this company, CW Naumann, but have been unable to find any info about it.

I love the chippiness of it as well as the curved legs. It actually slants a bit but is sturdy and quite heavy.

Have a great weekend.  And welcome to my new followers.  Very happy to have you.

Simplify

Happy New Year to you all.  What I like about this time of year is that there is a feeling of hope.  I believe that even the most cynical person experiences a glimmer of hope at the dawn of a new year.  I have many resolutions but first and foremost for me is to pare down, streamline, and use my time and energy more wisely and efficiently.  This can encompass many different sub-resolutions.  But I feel it is a great starting point.

Along the lines of simplicity, this is a fairly new item in my shop.  I like the look of white on white.

What appeals to me about this look is that it is subtle.  It doesn't have to scream out to get your attention.

I made this particular sham for a friend of mine who helped me get an appointment with a very big retailer she works for.  (for my full time job :)).

I left the edges unfinished as it gives a worn tattered look to the otherwise tailored feel of monogramming.

I made this a while ago and am resolving myself to sending it to her tomorrow.

I love the combination of white linen and hand loomed antique hemp linen.

I want to thank all of you who have supported me this, my first, year of blogging with your kind and always encouraging words.  I wish you all a wonderful 2012!!

The Love of Patina

"Patina (play /ˈpætɨnə/ or /pəˈtnə/) is a tarnish that forms on the surface of bronze and similar metals (produced by oxidation or other chemical processes); a sheen on wooden furniture produced by age, wear, and polishing; or any such acquired change of a surface through age and exposure. On metal, patina is a coating of various chemical compounds such as oxides or carbonates formed on the surface during exposure to the elements (weathering). Patina also refers to accumulated changes in surface texture and colour that result from normal use of an object such as a coin or a piece of furniture over." Wikipedia

I am focusing on the patina on metal for this post

I particularly like the rust at the top contrasted with the white color at the bottom of this candlestick

The patina on the urn accentuates the detail

I purchased this pitcher from a brother and sister team from France while at an antiques fair

Fred and Coco are wonderfully charming people

It was still dark when I arrived at their stall.  I could barely see two galvanized pitchers.

I said that I would like one and asked which of the two they preferred

Fred said that this one had an almost blue patina to it.  I chose it based upon that information

When I went back to pick it up, in the daylight, I was thrilled to see what he had chosen for me

I use this bucket as a waste basket in my bedroom.  One day I discarded some beads from New Orleans which my girls used to play with.  They got tangled around the handle accidentally.  I have left them there since.  I think I like that look.

I love this old German watering can.  I think it is unique because of the braided or twisted piece of metal that holds the arm of the can in place

There is nothing quite like the effect age has on us

Have a good one
